Weighted GPA Calculator
Calculate your weighted GPA with bonus points for Honors, AP, and IB courses, alongside your standard GPA.
About the Weighted GPA Calculator
Calculate a weighted GPA that gives bonus grade points for Honors, AP, and IB courses, alongside your standard (unweighted) GPA.
How the Weighted GPA Calculator works
Many high schools award extra grade points for harder courses to reflect the added difficulty. This calculator adds a bonus to each course's grade points based on its type before averaging — Honors adds 0.5, and AP or IB adds 1.0 — while also showing your standard GPA with no bonus applied, so you can compare both.
How to use the Weighted GPA Calculator
- Add each course with its grade, credit hours, and course type (Regular, Honors, AP, or IB).
- Press Calculate to see your weighted GPA and standard GPA side by side.
Formula used by the Weighted GPA Calculator
Weighted GPA = Σ((Grade Points + Course Type Bonus) × Credits) ÷ Σ(Credits)
Bonus: Regular +0, Honors +0.5, AP/IB +1.0Example: Weighted GPA Calculator
An Honors A (3 credits) and a Regular B (4 credits)
- Course 1: Honors, A (4.0 pts), 3 credits
- Course 2: Regular, B (3.0 pts), 4 credits
Result: Weighted GPA ≈ 3.64 (standard GPA ≈ 3.43)
Weighted: ((4.0+0.5)×3 + 3.0×4) ÷ 7 = (13.5 + 12) ÷ 7 ≈ 3.64. Standard (no Honors bonus): (4.0×3 + 3.0×4) ÷ 7 ≈ 3.43.
