Tips for the GPA Calculator

  • The 5.0 scale proportionally scales every grade point value from the 4.0 scale — use it if your school reports GPA out of 5.0.

Formula used by the GPA Calculator

GPA = Σ(Grade Points × Credit Hours) ÷ Σ(Credit Hours)

Example: GPA Calculator

Three courses: A (3 credits), B+ (4 credits), B (3 credits)

  • Course 1: A, 3 credits (4.0 pts)
  • Course 2: B+, 4 credits (3.3 pts)
  • Course 3: B, 3 credits (3.0 pts)

Result: GPA ≈ 3.42

GPA = (4.0×3 + 3.3×4 + 3.0×3) ÷ (3+4+3) = 34.2 ÷ 10 = 3.42.
