Find the minimum score you need on your final exam to reach your desired overall course grade.

How the Final Grade Calculator works

Enter your current grade and its weight toward the final course grade, along with your desired final grade and how much the final exam counts for. If the required score is 100% or below, it's achievable; if it comes out above 100%, reaching your desired grade isn't possible even with a perfect score.

Formula used by the Final Grade Calculator

Required Final Score = (Desired Grade − Current Grade × Current Weight ÷ 100) ÷ (Final Exam Weight ÷ 100)

Example: Final Grade Calculator

An 82% current grade (worth 60%), aiming for 85% overall

  • Current grade / weight: 82% / 60%
  • Desired grade: 85%
  • Final exam weight: 40%

Result: You need 89.5% on the final exam

Required Score = (85 − 82×0.6) ÷ 0.4 = (85 − 49.2) ÷ 0.4 = 35.8 ÷ 0.4 = 89.5%.
