BMR Calculator
Calculate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) to estimate baseline calorie consumption.
About this calculator
Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) estimates how many calories your body burns at rest just to maintain basic functions.
How to use
- Enter your age, sex, weight, and height.
- Select the BMR estimation method you want to use.
- If using Katch-McArdle, enter your body fat percentage.
- Press Calculate to see your estimated BMR.
Tips
- Multiply BMR by an activity factor to estimate your total daily calorie needs.
- Mifflin-St Jeor is generally considered the most accurate method for most people without precise body fat measurements.
- Katch-McArdle is ideal if you know your exact body fat percentage since it bases calculation on lean body mass.
Formula
Mifflin-St Jeor Equation:
For men:
BMR = 10W + 6.25H - 5A + 5
For women:
BMR = 10W + 6.25H - 5A - 161
Revised Harris-Benedict Equation:
For men:
BMR = 13.397W + 4.799H - 5.677A + 88.362
For women:
BMR = 9.247W + 3.098H - 4.330A + 447.593
Katch-McArdle Formula:
BMR = 370 + 21.6(1 - F)W
where:
W is body weight in kg
H is body height in cm
A is age
F is body fat in percentage (expressed as a fraction, e.g. 20% = 0.20)
